It’s official: Trump’s chief strategist, Breitbart co-founder, and failed deconstructor of the administrative state is #donezo. Perhaps the influential Trump-whisperer finally met his match in Trump’s new White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, or maybe it was that whole alt-right neo-nazi tiki torch thing that finally did him in. After all, it was Bannon himself who touted Breitbart as a “platform for the alt-right,” and the growing obviousness of Trump’s connection to white supremacists and neoconfederates is really having a negative impact on the man’s approval ratings.
Did he resign? Was he fired? We may never know.
But what does Trump’s base of far-right, torch-lighting, Breitbart-reading, Milo-loving useful idiots think about this? Well, they’re mighty confused and disheartened.
“Trump throwing Bannon under the bus to please establishment hacks?” exclaimed Rubicon in Breitbart’s comments section. “WTF!”
“I just don’t get it!?” replied Da Trumpstah. “How can we support him when bannon [sic] was one of the main reasons we elected him!?”
Some of them are just outright angry:
“FCKU Jared Kushner — FCKU Ivanka you BIATCH!” cried gordonfreeman in the same comments section.
And some are just really dejected:
“My god,” said Joe Casteleneto on Milo Yiannopolous’s Facebook page. “What is happening?”
As you may expect, exclamation points, ALL CAPS, name-calling, conspiracy theories, and typos abound.
Here are some of the best we’ve seen so far:
