We rate the songs and albums we review on a “five leaf” system in half-leaf increments. That’s basically a 10 point structure. When we review your track, we’re ranking it according to a variety of factors, including–but not limited to–production value, originality, song structure, hooks, and, really, the overall sound.
And, fair or not, you’re being compared to your peers. If a band is touted as “shoegaze,” we’re not going to take into consideration any awful punk demos we received or the garbage on Top 40 radio. We’re going to rank it on a scale of, say, Wishville to Loveless
So, a 2.5, which, may seem like a slap in the face, is actually really pretty good for your average indie act.
If we review your stuff, then we like it.
